Maharashtra is currently facing an influenza outbreak that has resulted in two deaths caused by the H3N2 virus. Health Minister Tanaji Sawant informed the media about the outbreak and the loss of lives, one from Nagpur and one from Ahmednagar.
The deceased were identified as a 72-year-old man and a 23-year-old medical student from Ahmednagar, who tested positive for Covid-19 and displayed other symptoms. There was a suspected third death in Nagpur, but an official statement is yet to be released confirming it.
In addition to the fatalities, the state health ministry has reported 361 cases of influenza infections. The ministry has requested the state to follow the guidelines that will be issued within a few days to curb the spread of the virus.
The Minister has urged people to use masks, maintain social distancing, and carry hand sanitizers when stepping out. The virus has affected various parts of the state, including Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Thane, Sangli, and Kolhapur.
According to the health ministry, there are 303 patients of H1N2 and 58 patients affected by H3N2 in Maharashtra. The authorities are monitoring the situation and advising people to take necessary precautions to avoid the spread of the virus.
